It was already mid evening and Osamu had watched four full length feature films today instead of attending his classes. His creative juices needed to flow and that just couldn't happen when locked up in that school listening to his teachers drone on about pointless topics. They were all geniuses in their own right however that didn't mean that their work had anything to offer him. He was an Auteur and he needed film to get him going, it was the very reason he got up in the morning to greet the world with his startling mind.
Today had started out simply with the latest Children's movie which showed a surprising amount of depth between its characters with oddly dark themes. From there he'd gotten himself a mild snack and moved onto a Stoner comedy which failed to gain even a single laugh from his lips. The jokes were tired and overplayed, the acting was terrible even for the genre and the plot, or what passed for it, collasped in upon itself in the third act. Most of that vieiwing was spent mentally correcting the film so at least Osamu had a new revision planned out on his mild, if he ever decided to go down that route. From there he had moved onto a romantic tween film starring a twisted demonic male and their high school lover. Over all the piece was rather by the books though they took a few interesting turns and the counter trend ending of the two not getting together earned it back some points. Perhaps he could make a deconstructionist piece based on this model, tearing apart the ideals and concepts of a monsterous lover. Hmmm... interesting idea but likely would upset the usual demographic...
After this film he'd had a break. He'd stopped at a Cafe to have himself lunch and so he could jot down the ideas he'd collected whilst watching those films. The first one, the children's film, was worth purchasing on DVD later but the other two would merely severe as fuel on the flames of Osamu's creative spirit. He needed to 'fix' those films and make them into true art. The way they stood now simply would not do, they could be made into something more suited to the canon of film. Tomorrow he would have to speak to his Producers to see if they thought that the market was ready for this work.
After he'd enjoyed his lunch with a lovely cup of tea he returned to the theater to watch his next film of the day. Really he should have picked a different feature but with the name staring at him from the list he had to pick it. He entered the darkened crowded cinema and sat for nearly 3 hours enjoying 'The Summit of Success' his own movie. By now he knew the whole thing by heart and could see it simply by closing his eyes but it never truely compared to seeing it in a theater with a crowd all around. He could feel them all being absorbed into the narrative of ambitions and betrayals. He could sense how their hearts hung on every line. He could read the rave reviews forming in his mind and he savoured every single second.
Once the film was over he silently slipped through the crowd listening to people compliment his work with a smirk cracking at the sides of his lips. Truly it was his best work but soon he would bring even greater pieces to the masses and they would come in flocks to see. These were his audience and he was the Ultimate Auteur, how good it all felt.
Once outside he looked up to the black sky with a gentle sigh. What should he do now? Should he spend the rest of the day watching films? Was there even still a point? After watching his own work again he felt like all other movies would simply pale in comparison. Maybe four films would be enough for today, he already had a lot of interesting ideas to play around with.
Osamu stood outside the building staring into the lobby with a focused look on his face. To anyone passing by it would be clear that he was thinking about something intently but they likely didn't know what.
