Name: Osamu Gushiken
Age: 16
Gender: Male
Birthday: 20th November
Student Type: Talented
Talent: Ultimate Director/ Auteur
Year: 2
Faceclaim:
Personality: Osamu is by his very nature a passionate person who takes a great joy in expressing himself almost to other student’s frustration. He does however find it difficult to make friends because of his intense devotion to his art form which makes him occasionally off putting. He does not socialise very often with others because of this as he spends most of his time working on film projects, directing, writing, editing or producing them. He has an incredibly high opinion of the arts and holds them high above other disciplines such as science based courses. The few friends that he has are usually all art students as well. He has a massive ego about his own talent and prefers to be referred to by the title of Auteur (Author of the Film) as that is what he truly believes about his pieces, that they are his design and his expression over all others involved. If people try to talk down about film he will be increasing confrontational with them but is rarely the one to throw a punch as he prefers destroying them verbally.
He is a control freak when it comes to his work and tends to have the most creative control over the projects. He directs, writes and edits the films while only hiring people he feels that he can trust to understand what he really means. He is fiercely intelligent as well especially in the arts taking inspirations from multiple sources to create what he feels are masterpieces of medium of cinema. Enjoys flaunting this intelligent over others and has little respect for the reserve course students who he feels drags down the name of Hope’s Peak Academy. Is quite elitist in a number of ways but if you prove that you are worthwhile in his eyes he can become a devoted friend who will respect the work that you do. Despite his tendencies towards art films as the Ultimate Director he is able to appreciate all forms of cinema but makes a distinction in discovering the peaks in each genre. Even the greatest popcorn flick is worth his attention if they can challenge conventions of their genre and break through the barriers.
Because of his skills as a Director he actually makes a good leader as well. He has no issue ordering others around and because of his experience he usually can work out the best way to divide people’s strength to complete a task. He does not take kindly to being questioned though because it has happened so rarely. Snappish responses are a common reaction for those who truly anger him in this regard. Is very unlikely to defer to others in times of crisis and is under the impression that he is able to handle things on his own.
Country of origin: Japan
Background: Osamu grew up as the only child to a Television/Film Director Father and a Producer Mother. Because of their heavy work schedules however he rarely stayed in a house for very long and basically grew up on film sets. From an early age he was being tutored by the smartest minds his parents could afford on their budgets and he absorbed the tricks of the trade watching them work constantly. He grew to love watching films develop when his parents spent so much time on them rather than resenting them as many children in his position might have done. In fact, over time, he almost began to view them as his own brothers and sisters, filling in a gap in his life left by his parent’s dense timetables.
During this time he made few friends as he hadn’t had the chance to attend a proper school. His best friend was a child star whom his parents were fond of using in their films, who also happened to be the child of another Actor. The two would often spend time together whilst their parents were busy and it was during this time that Osamu began his career as the Ultimate Director. He ‘borrowed’ one of the spare cameras that were kept at the ready in case they were needed and began shooting short films with his best friend. Though they began as imitations of his parents work he soon actually began writing basic scripts of his own and showing them to his best friend Mizuki.
Soon he had made his own proper fully edited Short film and showed it to his parents. They were astounded by their son’s skill and entered it into a short film festival using their connections. The piece was a hit and the crowd were stunned when it was revealed that their son, who was not even a teenager yet, had created it. For the next few years he assisted his parents on their films as an Assistant Director while working on his own films with Mizuki. Before long he had developed a massive reputation as the Child Prodigy of Film, the Baby Faced Auteur. His own style evolved and could be read into his work with his parents eagerly supporting these developments.
When he reached the proper age for High School he received his Letter offering him his place in Hope’s Peak Academy. This cemented his position as the Super High School Level Director or the Ultimate Director and he gladly accepted. He did however prefer to call himself the Auteur as Film Critics had begun referring to him. His first year of Hope’s Peak allowed him more opportunities and allowed him to finish a whole new feature film which has recently released in his second year. The film is based on the Academy loosely and follows a tale of Talented High School Students reshaping a world called ‘The Summit of Success’. He eagerly awaits to see what the Academy will inspire next and hopes to meet others, like Mizuki, who could work with him and under him.
